Local GEO: Be in the answer to “near me”

When someone asks for “a dentist near me” or “an employment lawyer in Kadıköy”, the answer is often assembled from map listings, reviews and local directories. Local GEO organises your listings on Google, Apple and Yandex Maps, your review processes and the location details on your site so they appear correctly in AI answers.

Short answer

Local GEO is the work of organising map listings, reviews and on-site location details so a business appears with correct information in search and AI answers to location-based questions. Google Business Profile, Apple Business and Yandex Business listings are kept accurate; no fake reviews and no copy-paste city pages.

Is local GEO different from local SEO?

The foundation is the same: correct listings, consistent details, genuine reviews. The difference is where results appear. Local SEO looks at map results and local search; local GEO also measures how AI answers questions like “which clinic should I choose?”. Google says products such as Business Profile can help visibility in both AI responses and other Search resultsSource 2: Optimizing your website for generative AI features on Google Search.

What matters on Google Business Profile?

Creating a profile is freeSource 7: Google Business Profile: Is a Business Profile on Google free?, and Google’s rules are clearSource 1: Guidelines for representing your business on Google:

  • The business name should be the real-world name used on your storefront and documents, with no added keywords or city names.
  • Virtual offices and rented mailing addresses are not eligible.
  • Service-area businesses should hide their address and show their service area.
  • One profile per business; duplicates cause problems on Maps.

Why Apple and Yandex Maps matter

In March 2026 Apple announced Apple Business, which replaces Business Connect. Existing listings migrate automatically and business details appear across Apple Maps, Safari and SpotlightSource 3: Introducing Apple Business (24 Mar 2026). Apple’s availability list includes Brand and Location Management for TürkiyeSource 8: Apple Business feature availability.

In Türkiye, Yandex Maps is also used for navigation and search. Adding a business on Yandex Business takes a few steps: name, activity, address and phone verificationSource 4: Yandex Business: Hızlı başlangıç.

How should reviews be collected?

On Google Maps, content not based on a genuine experience, reviews or ratings paid for directly or in kind, and content posted from multiple accounts by one person count as fake engagement and are removedSource 5: Fake engagement (Maps user-generated content policy).

What works is making review requests a routine step after the service and replying to every review, negative ones included, promptly and plainly.

Should you create a page for every city?

No. Do not create near-identical pages for cities where you have no physical presence. Google treats similar pages that target specific cities or regions and funnel users to one place as doorway abuseSource 6: Spam policies for Google web search. If you have a real branch, one page with that branch’s real details is enough.
