Citable content: Short answers, evidence and freshness
When an AI writes an answer, it picks sentences and facts from several sources. What the chosen content has in common is that it answers the question plainly and proves what it says. This guide explains how to write such content.
Citable content answers the question directly in the first paragraph, supports its claims with sources and data, and shows its author and date. In the GEO paper’s experiments, citing sources and adding quotations and statistics raised visibility by 30–40%, while keyword stuffing offered little to no improvement.
1. Answer the question in the first paragraph
Let the heading ask the question and the first paragraph answer it. We put a 40–60 word short answer at the top of our pages. Google says there is no need to break content into chunks or write differently for its generative AI featuresSource 3: Optimizing your website for generative AI features on Google Search; the short answer is a summary written out of respect for the reader’s time.
2. Add evidence: sources, quotations, data
In the GEO paper’s experiments, citing sources, adding quotations and adding statistics raised visibility in generative engine answers by 30–40%, while keyword stuffing offered little to no improvementSource 1: GEO: Generative Engine Optimization (Aggarwal et al., KDD 2024).
- Tie platform claims to the platform’s own documentation and legal information to the official text.
- Do not publish a number you cannot source; instead of hedging with “about” or “many”, find the data or drop the sentence.
- If you publish your own data, explain the method: what was measured, when and how?
3. Who wrote it, how, and why?
Google suggests three questions for evaluating content: who created it, how it was created and why it was createdSource 2: Creating helpful, reliable, people-first content. The author’s name and expertise should be visible. If automation or AI was used and readers might wonder about it, explaining how and why helpsSource 2: Creating helpful, reliable, people-first content. Kaynaq’s own practice is on the editorial policy page.
4. Dates and updates
- Show the publication and last update date on every page. In Türkiye’s health sector this is an obligation: website information must show its last update date and how to contact the editorSource 5: Sağlık Hizmetlerinde Tanıtım ve Bilgilendirme Faaliyetleri Hakkında Yönetmelik (RG 12.11.2025, 33075).
- When facts change, update the page and note the change on it.
- Do not refresh the date without changing the content; the date should show when the content was actually checked.
5. What to avoid
- Mass-producing pages that add no value: Google treats this as “scaled content abuse” spamSource 4: Spam policies for Google web search.
- Unsourced statistics, invented examples and “current” information without a date.
- Answering the same question on several pages with near-identical text.
Checklist
- The heading is a question in your buyers’ words.
- The first paragraph answers it in 40–60 words.
- Every claim carries its source; numbers have a source and a date.
- Author, publication and update dates are visible.
- Steps are lists and comparisons are tables.
- Each question is answered on a single page of the site.
Frequently asked questions
01Is writing content with AI a problem?

Mass-producing low-value pages is spam whatever tool is usedSource 4: Spam policies for Google web search.
02How long should the short answer be?
There is no fixed rule. We use 40–60 words: enough to answer the question without tiring the reader.
03How often should content be updated?
When the facts change. For fast-moving topics such as AI bots and platform features, re-check pages regularly and show the date you checked them.
