Law firms: Accurate information within the advertising ban
When an AI is asked for a firm’s address, a lawyer’s bar or their practice areas, the answer should be right. But advertising is prohibited in the legal profession in Türkiye, and the bar’s rules explicitly prohibit work aimed at ranking higher in search engines. This page explains what can and cannot be done.
Lawyers in Türkiye may not make any attempt that could count as advertising to obtain work. The bar’s regulation also prohibits code, keywords and page addresses aimed at ranking higher in search engines. So we do not offer visibility services to law firms; we audit the accuracy of what AI answers say about them and check the site against the rules.
What does the advertising ban say about search engines?
Article 55 of the Attorneys Act prohibits lawyers from any attempt or act that could count as advertising to obtain work and leaves the details to the Union of Turkish Bar Associations’ regulationSource 1: 1136 sayılı Avukatlık Kanunu. What does Kaynaq do in this industry?
We work not to raise your visibility but to make sure what AI says about you is correct:
- Accuracy audit: Are your firm’s name, address, bar registration and practice areas correct in AI answers? If not, we find the source and show how to correct it.
- Compliance check: We compare your site with the information list in Article 7 of the regulation and list any content or code that may fall under the ban.
- Readability: We check that the permitted information is complete and machine-readable on the site; we add nothing aimed at ranking.
The questions we measure are accuracy questions, not promotional ones: “Where is [firm name]?”, “Which bar is [lawyer’s name] registered with?”. We do not work on promotional questions such as “best lawyer”.
What do we not do?
- Keyword-targeted content, pages or domain names
- General legal guides written to win clients
- Promotional placement in directories, lists or news sites
- Search ads, sponsored posts and content promotion
This page summarises how the regulation affects AI and search work. For your own situation, consult your bar association.
